With the release 24.03, the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community (BMI) officially hands over openDesk – The Sovereign Workplace to the Center for Digital Sovereignty (ZenDiS). The release incorporates numerous technical advancements continuously provided through Open CoDE as part of deployment automation.
Additionally, the publication includes the provision of the following documents:
Specifically, with the 24.03 release, bugs identified in quality assurance have also been resolved.
What comes next?
ZenDiS takes over projects such as Open CoDE and openDesk – The Sovereign Workplace. This marks the beginning of a new project phase, focusing on user-centric development and advancing the pilot phase of the workplace suite in German authorities.

More and more people are talking about it: The project openDesk – The Sovereign Workplace is picking up speed. Those responsible at the BMI, represented by the project group Aufbau ZenDiS, collaborate with the open source software vendors and Dataport, in order to work together on the realization of openDesk.
openDesk is a digital workplace for public administration (starting in Germany). Sovereign, user-friendly, future-proof and open source. The release of a basic version is already planned for the end of this year.
openDesk represented at the Smart Country Convention
In addition to technical and structural topics around openDesk, there is currently also a great event in the focus: the Smart Country Convention (SCCON), which will take place from November 7-9 in Berlin. Meet representatives from Collabora, Dataport, Element, Nextcloud, Nordeck, Open-XChange, OpenProject, Univention, and ZenDiS to get first-hand insights into the project and the realization of openDesk.

The Sovereign Workplace is a digital workplace for public administration with a focus on digital sovereignty, usability and sustainability. The use and publication of open source-based components and the further development as open source are the cornerstones of the Sovereign Workplace.
As part of this development, we would like to share new, exciting information.
The Sovereign Workplace receives a new corporate design
The launch of the new corporate identity took place at the end of August - the Sovereign Workplace is now called openDesk and shines in the new design.
What and why?
To make the affiliation to the umbrella brand of the Digital Sovereignty Centre (only German) visible, some design elements are adopted but with their own accentuations. Reasons for the design launch are, among other things, ...
By setting itself apart from other products and promoting recognition, the openDesk brand should become more distinctive and build trust in the product.
New development results published on Open CoDE
Since the last news article in week 28, new features have been released on Open CoDE. These include updates to the new Elements Starter Edition and the switch to App Suite 8 from Open-Xchange. However, all other components of openDesk have also been further developed. The software deployment and most of the components have already been branded with the new design.
What comes next?
Until the release of the basic version 1.0 at the end of 2023, automated deployments on open CoDE will take place regularly.
